Ravine Park

Downtown Mingles With Wilderness

This stream follows a natural drainage depression that existed before Thompson was developed. Prior to the 1960’s, this area was forested with native trees. This ravine area carries water from the city’s storm drains. Currently there is aggressive slumping of the east bank of the stream due to unstable soil conditions. The run-off has begun a meandering process downstream that will continue. The final outcome of this constant flow of water will change the terrain as the years go by. Thompson is an urban community at the edge of wilderness with competing interests. Although water and nature here are taking its course, at some point humans will have to control the outcome again. Only time will tell.
